Summary: Australian volunteer firefighter and owner of the local pet shop Diamond Creek Aquarium & Pet Supplies in the Melbourne suburbs of Diamond Creek, Australia who was among one of more than 300 people believed to be missing and feared dead in a series of bushfires that ignited or were burning across the Australian state of Victoria on February 7, 2009 killing at least 170 people including his partner Sue Evans and teenage stepson Jon Le Gassick and also seriously injured more than 400 others when the blaze destroyed the couple's Strathewen property in the Kinglake West area during extreme weather conditions, in which it became one of the worst bushfire disasters ever recorded in Australian history that has become widely referred to as Black Saturday.
